A neat little speed reading tool.
I would never want to NOT subvocalize when reading fiction, because I like language itself so much, but I used this tool to speed read through some Slate and Tiny Mix Tape articles/reviews and found it useful. I could crank Spreeder up to around 800 WPM but then things start getting dicey. I timed myself reading Infinite Jest however and was reading around 200 WPM which is more than alright with me. I wouldn’t enjoy it flashing across my mind.
So this makes me realize how slow a reader I actually am. : (
