The Verdict on Couch Surfing
This weekend I traveled to MUnich with two other girls. We were having a hard time booking a hostle and didn’t want to spend all of our money to sleep in a shitting hostel, because they are actually kind of expensive for what they are. The first night we were here, Thursday night, our train got in pretty late and we did end up staying at a hostel. It was fun, but we each paid 19€ to sleep in a 40 person room. We had plans to couch surf with a german guy named Tom for friday and saturday night.
We met Tom late Friday afternoon and he took us to his flat to drop off our stuff. I know the whole thing sounds sketchy to a lot of people but this has actually been one of the most positive expiriences I had had. Tom has been so generous to us. He has cooked us dinner, bought us breakfast, and helped us navigate the city. It is the kind of hospitality and generosity that you dont ever find anymore in people.
I think the things that have made study abroad so positive for me are the wonderful local people I have met. Every european who I have actually spent time with has been so nice and genuine.
