SO LONG! only read if you really love me
Just like everyday since I have been here this week was super busy.
Monday I had classes in the morning and afternoon. I didn’t really have time to do anything other than homework, cleaning, and shopping (au Franprix!) in between my classes. After my second class we had a group meeting about safety, rules, ect. It was pretty boring except for the fact that they said someone was sent home in a body bag last year. After they told us this, we were all like “so why wasn’t that mentioned during orientation?” It turns out the kid had a severe asthma attack. They implied that he/she had been mugged or killed or something to scare people about safety in an unknown city. After dinner we just hung around cite with each other.
Tuesday was the first field trip day. My french class went to Monmartre to see Sacre-Couer. There weren’t that many people inside when we got there, so we were able to take our time. There was a guy playing the harp and you could see all of Paris from the outside. It was cool but Yass had told us that it is better to go outside there at night, which I believe after visiting there. Everywhere I have been in Paris looks so much better when we go back at night. It truely is the City of Lights, I suppose. When we were walking up to the church through the town area, Aaron and I saw a sign for a Dali Exhibition in town. Our professor thought that would be cooler than the planned field trip so we went there after we left the church. It was a really great exhibition and they even had “Retrospective Bust of a Woman” which I studied in modern sculpture last semester. They also had a gallery with things for sale the items said “Price Upon Request.” I can only imagine how much that costs. After the field trip, we returned to cite for dinner. That night we went with Yass to the Champs-elysees for crepes.
Wednesday was another day spent mostly around campus. I tried to exercise and get homework done in between classes. Wednesday night we went to the ballet at the old Opera house. It was soo awesome. The building is beautiful and you can’t even see the inside unless you are going to the performance. The Ballet was “La Dame aux Camélias,” which is based on a novel by Dumas. It was very long but very good. The only downside was the super uncomfortable chairs. Afterwards we were starving and ending up eating the first McDo of the trip. I am soo much hungrier here than I am at home. I feel like I am eating soo much, hopefully the walking will balance this increase in appetite out.
Today was my second field trip day. We went to a the Musée de l’Orangerie which contained works from Monet, Matisse, Picasso, Durain, Modigliano, Cezanne, Gaugin, and other contemporaries of these. Then we went to the Louvre. This was my second trip to the Louvre this trip. Emily and I are in the same class, but we were able to have friends come meet us there, even though we were on a field trip. We got lost (no, really) in the louvre. We couldn’t get out of Egypt. I had never been to that wing before and had no idea how much Egyptian art there was at the musee. Tonight was spent around the dorms. Stephanie, Emily, and I tried to finalize things for Munich next weekend. Everyone is going somewhere tomorrow. I am really excited about Normandy. After trying to plan things tonight, I am relieved to have one weekend down for me.
I think my camera might be dead : (
I have changed the batteries three times since I got here, and it still is acting weird and says it needs new batteries.
I wish I had realized that I needed a new one before I got to Europe.
