Long Post from the Blog I write for my parents and their friends
On Thursday night when we went out we ended up meeting a photographer who has become a great friend to all of us. One of the guys in our group that we went out with left his wallet in the bar we were at, and Yass (the photographer) went back to the bar to find it for him and returned it the next day. It had over a 150 euro in it and all his credit cards. Yass is really nice and has become like our personal tour guide around the city.
Friday night the 10 people that I hang out with were trying to go to the Eiffel Tower but a lot more people wanted to go so we waited for them. The people that wanted to go were mainly girls who were already really drunk. I felt so bad for the guys we were with how had to keep up with them all night. But other than that the Eiffel Tower was so much fun. We just sat under the stars and watched it sparkle. I think it is the best 4th of July I have ever had.
Saturday was a really busy day. Actually everyday has been really busy. I feel like I have been here so much longer than 5 days. The faculty organized a little bachi (sp?) match for anyone who wanted to come and learn the game. About 15 of our group went plus professors. It was rainy and miserable outside at first, but the it cleared up and ended up being a lot of fun. It also ended up being good for us that we went because we were offered tickets to see swan lake at the modern opera house before anyone else. So Wednesday night I will be going to that. After going back home and changing clothes we went on a hunt for soup but we unable to find any at the cafes in the area so we gave up, but still ate a great lunch at a cafe one RER stop down from Cite. After lunch we took the metro to Monteparnesse to figure out the eurail pass and make reservations. We were there over 3 hours! But we did reserve tickets to Munich on the weekend of the 18th. I’m going to travel with Stephanie and Emily for that trip. I am still trying to plan my last two weekends. One will be south of France most likely and I’m not sure of the other one but I really wouldn’t mind staying in Paris and maybe taking a daytrip somewhere. Afterwards we went back to Cite and then later met up with Yass again. He took us to a really cool area of Paris. We just walked around past the Pantheon, around the more tucked away less tourist streets, and then walked back to the Notre Damn area and watched street performers. We also took pictures on the center of paris and at the narrowist street in Paris.
This morning (sunday) Emily, Stephanie, Ben and I went to mass at Notre Damn. I have never been to a catholic mass before so its exciting that my first one was at Notre Damn. When we told Yass that we were going to mass he recommended that we go to the Jewish quarter by metro afterward to eat. He said a lot of things in Paris are closed on Sundays and we could get falafel and pitas in the Jewish quarter. We are so lucky that he recommended this. It was probably my favorite meal I have eaten in Paris so far and we would have never know about these places if it weren’t for Yass. We were planning on going to the Catacombs today but didn’t have enough time, so we decided to go to the Louvre for about 2 hours. It was packed because it is free the first Sunday of every month but I’m still glad we went. Then we got some crepes and headed back to Cite to do homework, which is why I have finally had time to update this.
Oh I am so a metro pro now!
